Slovenia's amended Public Use of Slovene Act (ZJRS-B) has required Slovenian in device operating systems and graphical interfaces since 27 October 2025. Voice interfaces follow at the end of October 2026. Six device categories are named in the government's decision, and we deliver the language side for all of them: native voice, studio recording, string localization, and on-device linguistic QA.

What the law requires
The 2024 amendment extends the public use of Slovene into the digital environment. Devices sold in Slovenia that access information-society or media services must let the user choose Slovenian, including the Slovenian character set, with functionality equivalent to every other language the device supports.
The obligation landed in two waves. Operating systems and graphical user interfaces have been in force since 27 October 2025. Voice user interfaces follow at the end of October 2026. A government decision names the categories in scope, and the law requires that list to be reviewed at least every three years — so it is a moving target, not a one-time check.

The categories in scope
All six carry the operating-system and graphical-interface obligation, in force since 27 October 2025. Voice interfaces apply to every category except connected cars, from the end of October 2026.

Personal computers and laptops
OS shells, installers, and bundled application UI. String localization at volume, plus the recorded or synthetic voice layer where the machine talks back.

Tablets and e-readers
Touch UI, store copy, reading-app chrome. Short strings where Slovenian's compounds overrun the layout — we test on the device, not in the file.

Smartphones
System UI, keyboard and the Slovenian character set, assistant prompts, notification copy. The category where the voice obligation bites hardest.

Smart TVs
Launcher and settings UI, EPG, voice search prompts. Living-room copy is read at three metres and heard across a room; we QA it on the panel.

Connected cars and automotive components
In scope for operating systems and graphical interfaces only — the decision excludes in-car voice control. HMI strings, cluster and infotainment copy, warning text.

Operator UI, EPG and VOD metadata, remote-control voice search.
